Voyageur’s projects feature a companion website and the creation of educational materials to enhance use of our documentaries in classrooms, workshops and academic research. Our educational materials are designed during the final stages of production by curriculum specialists who connect the documentary content to specific academic standards, courses and grades K thru college. The Big Picture offers a host of educational opportunities:

  • The Big Picture explores the science of photography from its origins through the Daguerrean era to the development of consumer cameras and film.
  • The Big Picture examines regional history by showing the social, economic and cultural impact of photography on Greater Cincinnati.
  • The Big Picture covers sociology, connecting how photography was used in social movements, including abolition, public health, poverty, women’s suffrage, civil rights and federal programs during the Great Depression.
  • The Big Picture presents biographical profiles of photographers who broke social barriers to document diverse communities, including James P. Ball, Mary Waldack and Ben Rosen.
  • The Big Picture reveals the emergence of photography as an art form through the innovative work of Nancy Ford Cones and Paul Briol.
